T-Mobile — Commercial

Overview

It was a lot of fun working with Seattle based production company Hey Brutus on three projects for T-Mobile. The first two productions were part of a campaign to refresh their library of footage highlighting the rollout of 5G technology in non-urban areas, so the directive for the first shoot was to film scenes in rural environments. My locations manager scoured the greater Chicago area for farm stands, country roads, wedding venues and other picturesque locations that fit the creative. Significant distance between locations and a large cast made our company moves quite challenging, and it took me, Production Manager Seth Rice, Production Coordinator Katie Kranz, and Assistant Director Paul Ruffalo all working in tandem to efficiently tackle the logistics and scheduling involved in making the shoot a success.

Our second production featured a Back to School theme and was shot against the East Coast aesthetic of Elmhurst University. We filmed various exterior scenes around campus on a gorgeous day that perfectly matched the vibe we were aiming for. The moment we called “wrap,” a huge storm rolled in and rain started pouring like crazy! Talk about perfect timing.

The third project was centered around the town of Woodstock, IL. Thanks to Bill Murray and Groundhog Day, every day is Groundhog Day in Woodstock. Besides its Hollywood claim-to-fame, it was also chosen as the inaugural T-Mobile Hometown Techover winner, which meant it scored a three million dollar technology upgrade that included a two hundred thousand dollar grant, 5G network enhancements, a Little League® Baseball field refurbishment and so much more. This turned Woodstock into the crown jewel of 5G for small towns across America. On the day the town was announced the winner, our film crew was on site capturing the festivities. We were able to chat with the locals (some of whom were already huge T-Mobile fans), interview the Mayor and capture everyone’s reactions and thoughts on how 5G technology would elevate the infrastructure of their town. This project was a blast and all three individual pieces turned out beautifully.
