Working with my friends at Someoddpilot is always a blast, and knowing that I have extensive experience in crazy travel jobs, they turned to me to execute a production that would film in three states over a week. The creative centered around the voices of leaders at multiple companies using Klaviyo’s email marketing platform. When filming high-profile executives, our production schedule must adapt to their availability. So even though we had two executives to film in LA, their schedules did not align back to back. In the end, the plan looked like this: Fly to Nashville, the closest hub to film in southern Kentucky, go back to the airport in Nashville and fly to LA, fly from there to NYC, and back to Chicago for a day off at home, and then fly back to LA to round out our crazy shoot!
With this schedule in place, my Production Coordinator Katie Kranz and I began hiring local crews in each location, renting filming locations that fit the look, and liaising with the agency and client. We then booked flights, lodging, and rental vehicles for ourselves, our Director, Jeremy Freeberg, and our Account Manager Ellen Evangelides.
Each location in each city had to be perfect. We had to make sure that there was adequate parking, a way to load in equipment, the look of the space had to represent each CEO we were interviewing, and last but not least, we needed to have good enough internet in each location so that we could create a remote VTR for our clients who were not able to join us on the road.
It was an absolute whirlwind of late nights, early mornings, and too many flights to count, but the energy and adrenaline that comes with a production like this brought me the greatest satisfaction! Of course, it also helps when you do a project with good friends like Jeremy and Ellen, the most extraordinary humans. I also must shout out our excellent local crews, especially each DP, for keeping visual style and cohesion between every geographic filming location. It was a team effort to accomplish this project, and I was pleased to deliver a flawless plan to execute this ambitious task.
